The Book Thief - Film Review

So I just came back from seeing The Book Thief, and I want to write this while it's still fresh in my mind because only then will it be a true representation of how this movie made me feel.

First of all, I was blown away by the casting for each of the characters. The acting, especially Liesel and Hans, was actually so close to how I imagined in the book and they played them perfectly. If you get the characters right in the movie, I can forgive other things like little changes or additions.

Rudy was one of the main characters I was looking forward to seeing immensely, and he didn't disappoint. If you've not read the book or seen the film, let me just say how lovable his character is. Him and Hans were my favourites in both the book and the film.

There are too many things to say about this film to do it justice, as I'd probably forget to mention something crucial, but I will say this: it captured the heart of the story, and I was in tears by the end of it - just like the book.

As I exited the cinema, every single person was sniffing and wiping their tears. My friend and I didn't say a word as we left. What could we say? No words can cover how good the film was and we were reminded again just how much devastation the Second World War caused, so we simply dried our eyes and drove home.

If you haven't read the book, I do urge you to read it. No movie is ever as good as its book counterpart, and you're missing out on so much if you don't read the original story.

Saying that though, the movie is good too. So instead, I urge you: experience both.
